Lazarous Mankel Chongo:
BE INVOLVED

DATE: 31/05/2017

THEME: Are you far too easily pleased?(ii)

KEY VERSE:
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2: 15-17 NIV

MESSAGE: What are you living for- the world or God? All throughout scripture it is very clear on that we cannot serve both. However, in this verse I do not believe God is commanding us to ultimately reject the world. If He would be, then that would be going against the command to love your neighbor. God loved the world, that’s why He sent His son. The difference comes in, where is the root of your love for the world stemming from? Do you love the people of this world because your heart is moved in compassion towards them, because you are seeking the desires of the Lord’s heart? Or, is your love for the world stemming from all of the “pleasures” it appears to offer, and where you are trying to gain happiness? These pleasures never and will never bring satisfaction or happiness to you that will last. It’s like trying to satisfy your hunger with candy. candy will not fill you. It may temporary satisfy you, but you will always long for more. But the hunger will not go away because the candy doesn’t contain the nutrition that your body is asking for. So my question is, are you becoming far too easily satisfied with the “candy” of this world, when the King is hosting a fully nutritious feast in your honor? Only you can answer that question. I hope you are choosing the feast. If not, it is not too late to join! It is always an open invitation!

Pray in line with the Spirit, asking Him to reveal to you where you are choosing the pleasures of this world instead of being satisfied in what the Lord has to offer you. Pray for those that you know that are caught in this trap, and ask the Lord to continue to move your heart in compassion towards them. Pray for encounters where you can encourage them and show them what real hope and satisfaction looks like.
